Linux Fest Northwest: That's a Wrap!
LFNW Recap
Conferences like LinuxFest Northwest are vital to fostering a collaborative environment of groundbreaking ideas born from lifelong bonds.
The System76 team enjoyed their time attending, thanks to the natural friendliness and warmth of the Linux fellowship. For us, the conference serves as a fulfilling reminder of why we do what we do…and who our favorite people are. (You!)
Aaron of the System76 support team was excited to come face-to-face with online friends.
“It’s great to have LFNW back in Bellingham to meet folks in person that you’ve been talking to over Matrix and other channels.”
DAY 1: MEET COSMIC DE
Day one was full of enthusiasm and nerdery. The “Meet COSMIC DE” talk was packed full with curious geeks who crave something new and exciting. System76 CEO and Founder Carl Richell and UX Architect Maria Komarova delivered upcoming COSMIC features with excitement. You can watch the full presentation on Youtube here.
The first day was a day of enthusiasm and nerdery. System76 CEO and Founder Carl Richell and UX Architect Maria Komarova introduced COSMIC to a room overflowing with conference attendees. The energy was contagious. “Attending LinuxFest Northwest for the first time was an exhilarating experience, marked by vibrant community and a welcoming atmosphere,” recounts Maria. “I was overwhelmed by the positive reception COSMIC has received.”
“The enthusiasm for COSMIC at LinuxFest Northwest was everything I hoped it would be,” says Carl. “That excitement will be a driving force as we continue to develop this new desktop environment.”
After the COSMIC presentation, System76 folks met up with their long-time boos at Jupiter Broadcasting to present an epic BBQ to over 100 hungry stomachs craving camaraderie. Hot dogs were consumed. Rain hydrated the buns. We had a lot of fun chatting with our Linux brethren, both familiar and new faces!
DAY 2: Celebrity Carl?
Day 2: Battlestations at the booth! The System76 team the Lemur Pro, Darter Pro, Thelio, Pangolin and Launch keyboard — a smorgasbord of Linux hardware accompanied by Pop!_OS swag! Coming to LFNW lets us showcase how our engineering craft continues to evolve year-to-year, and meet the smiling faces of our happy customers past, present, and future. Carl was beaming when a fan named Josh asked him to sign his Lemur Pro.
A handful of attendees expressed interest in coming to see the factory, and we hope to show them around soon! If you ever find yourself in the Denver area, feel free to schedule a tour of our manufacturing plant with us.
Carl looks forward to visiting the conference again in the future. “This was my first time at LinuxFest Northwest, and it won't be my last. The LNFW team puts on a great fest and the attendees were amazing. Make sure to head to Bellingham next year if you missed this one.
Maria, meanwhile, enjoyed the opportunity to interact with potential COSMIC users at her first LFNW attendance.
“I was particularly grateful for the chance to share our efforts and guiding principles in designing COSMIC DE. Presenting our work allowed us to engage with fellow enthusiasts and receive valuable feedback. Our insightful conversations reaffirmed the importance of collaborative efforts in driving innovation in technology. It was a memorable introduction to the Linux community, leaving me inspired and eager to dive deeper into the next project,”
After the show wrapped up, the team went for a post-conference hike at Whatcom Falls Park. It was a beautiful, unforgettable experience.
